Robbins Says Workshops Offered for Guidance in Filing for Firefighters Grant Program

Harrisburg – Senator Bob Robbins, (R-50) today reminded fire companies in the region that free workshops are being held from March 1-16, to guide in filing applications for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office for Domestic Preparedness-sponsored 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP).

"These workshops provide an excellent opportunity for our local fire company chiefs to get expert direction in how to complete the application and file it online, as well as how to provide the essential information needed and answer specific questions," Robbins said. "I encourage fire chiefs or treasurers to be sure to attend a meeting in their area.

Meetings being held within the 50th Senatorial District are:

Crawford County – 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at the Hydetown Vol. Fire Dept., 12666 Main Street, Hydetown. For more information contact Craig Farrar at 814-671-0231.

Mercer County – 6:00 P.M., Saturday, March 6, 2004, at the Hermitage Fire Dept., Station #3, 541 Mercer Ave., Hermitage. For more information contact Bob Goeltz at 724-342-0669.

The AFGP is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office for Domestic Preparedness. The program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments throughout the United States. These funds are used to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations, to improve firefighter health and safety programs and to establish or expand fire prevention and safety programs.

Although the workshops are for federal grants, they are sponsored by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner as a service to first responders.

Additional workshops may be added daily, as needed across the state. For the most updated list of locations, visit the Office of the State Commissioner Web site at www.osfc.state.pa.us
