Senator Robbins and Representative Gruitza Announce
Grant to Help Hermitage Pay for Recycling
Harrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) and Representative
Michael Gruitza (D-7) today announced the approval of a state grant to
support recycling in Hermitage.
The $20,501 Recycling Performance Grant is based on the total tons
recycled by Hermitage as well as its overall recycling rate for 2002.
"Whether by helping municipalities improve their composting
programs or assisting them in the purchase of vehicles for collecting
recyclables, the Commonwealth plays a major role in assisting
communities in their recycling efforts," said Robbins.
Representative Gruitza stated, "The state supplies financial
support, and communities implement the programs to reduce the amount
of waste that ends up in landfills."
The Recycling Performance Grant Program is administered by the
state Department of Environmental Protection. The program provides
incentives to help communities increase their recycling rates and
exceed the statewide goal of recycling 35 percent of all municipal
waste.
