Senate Adopts Robbins' "Community Action Month"
Resolution
Harrisburg – Yesterday, the Senate unanimously approved a measure
-- Senate Resolution 242 -- sponsored by Sen. Bob Robbins (R-50)
designating May as Community Action Month in Pennsylvania.
For 40 years, community action agencies have provided outreach to
low-income individuals and families to help them achieve
self-sufficiency. Through locally designed programs, community action
addresses a multitude of needs, including food, emergency and
affordable housing, literacy and education, job training,
transportation, day care, and personal and family development.
"The truth is, community action changes lives by helping people
help themselves," said Sen. Robbins. "With this resolution, we
recognize the work done by those involved in community action."
In Pennsylvania, there are 43 community action agencies that serve
all 67 counties. Sen. Robbins noted, "It gives me great pleasure to
sponsor this resolution, as I have seen firsthand the work done by the
Mercer County Community Action Agency, which is headed by Ron Errett."
Also in the 50th Senatorial District are chapters in Butler and
Lawrence Counties; while Crawford County is served through Venango
County's chapter.
