Mercer County Conservation District To Receive
Environmental Education Grant
Harrisburg - The Mercer County Conservation District has been
awarded a $9,825 state grant from the Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP) to create a new environmental education program for
young people, according to State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50).
Robbins said the grant will used by the conservation district and
its Munrell Run Farm to develop a program to help special needs
students learn about agriculture and the environment.
"Environmental education grants enable communities to promote
awareness and understanding of the need to protect valuable natural
resources," Robbins said. "This program is especially important
because it will help to teach young people about what they can do to
clean up the environment and continue Pennsylvania’s strong
agricultural tradition."
DEP awards the grants under the Environmental Education Grant
Program, which was established by Act 24 of 1993.
