Crawford County Organizations Awarded State Grants to Promote Environmental Efforts

Harrisburg - Two Crawford County organizations will receive a total of $34,500 in state grants to help fund environmental education and conservation programs, according to Senator Bob Robbins (R-50).

Robbins said the Meadville Medical Center was recently awarded $28,000 from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), under its Rivers Conservation Program.

The center will use the grant to develop a meditation garden and walk, and to stabilize the streambanks along Mill Run, which runs behind the facility.

"This will not only enhance the area around the Medical Center but also protect a local waterway, Robbins said.

In addition, the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, Crawford County, will receive a $6,500 grant from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to promote environmental education efforts in the area.

The funds will be used to pay for administrative costs and resource materials needed to conduct teacher workshops on the French Creek Project.

"Environmental education grants enable communities to promote awareness and understanding of the need to protect valuable natural resources," Robbins said. "It's an important way to spread the message that we need to do more to promote a clean environment."
