Robbins Announces Community Revitalization Grants
for Projects in Crawford County
Harrisburg – State Sen. Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the
awarding of state grants to benefit several key community projects
throughout Crawford County.
Robbins said the state Community Revitalization grants are designed
to support projects that promote community improvement, public safety
and job creation.
"These are local projects, administered by local governments,
community historical societies and area development organizations,"
said Robbins. "These grants represent state tax dollars returning to
the community to benefit local endeavors."
Senator Robbins announced the following grants:
- $ 25,000 to the Conneaut Lake Area Historical Society to renovate
the old Conneaut Lake Community Building. Previously targeted for
razing, the building will be used by the historical society to house
artifacts, microfilm and genealogy information.
- $30,000 to Conneaut Lake Park to help it pay its gas and electric
bills. The 112-year-old amusement park is part of the local heritage,
and employs 250 people during the summer, generating $900,000 in local
payrolls.
- $6,000 to the Hydetown Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a
reconditioned Hurst rescue tool for auto-related extraction
emergencies. The department's EMS calls have risen 75 percent in
recent years, and the construction of a Wal-Mart Super Center on Route
8 will increase traffic and EMS calls.
- $30,000 to the Meadville Medical Center Foundation to purchase an
emergency power generator for the Conneaut Valley Health Center for
use in the event of a disaster or power outage. The center currently
has no emergency backup system for power.
- $12,000 to the Meadville-Western Crawford County Chamber of
Commerce to develop a new website for marketing Crawford County. A new
website is vital in providing constant, updated information used for
attracting business and jobs to the county.
- $25,000 to the City of Titusville to fund Police Department and
Fire Department projects. Police would be able to replace the taping
system for recording emergency telephone calls and radio transmissions
with a digital system. The Fire Department needs to replace its
station roof, which is in danger of collapsing.
- $8,000 to the Visiting Nurses Association of Crawford County to
purchase a HomMed telehealth monitor. The device would allow VNA
patients to monitor daily vital signs at home and transmit them to
nurses via telephone.
"I am extremely pleased to announce funding assistance for projects
that will promote job growth, improve public safety and preserve
history in Crawford County," said Robbins. "We must continue to strive
to promote community development and job creation at the state and
local levels."
The Community Revitalization Program is administered by the state
Department of Community and Economic Development.
