Robbins Announces Community Revitalization Grants
for Projects in Mercer County
Harrisburg – State Sen. Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the
awarding of state grants to benefit several key community projects
throughout Mercer County.
Robbins said the state Community Revitalization grants are designed
to support projects that promote community improvement and job
creation.
"These are local projects, administered by local governments,
community historical societies and area development organizations,"
said Robbins. "These grants represent state tax dollars returning to
the community to benefit local endeavors."
Senator Robbins announced the following grants:
- $5,000 to Greene Township to assist the purchase of computer
equipment and the creation of an administrative office in the
municipal building (the landmark Carr House). The project will
provide Greene Township citizens with a centralized point of contact
for township services.
- $20,000 to the Greenville Area Economic Development Corp. to
install new shower and restroom facilities at the Greenville
Airport. The project will allow it to draw more visitors to the
community through events such as the Stefan Banic Skydive festival.
Current airport facilities are not adequate for the number of people
attending large airport events.
- $10,000 to the Greenville Historical Society to help pay for
renovations to the Waugh House Museum, which is listed on the
National Register of Historic Places. The museum features historic
Greenville artifacts that were previously housed at Thiel College.
- $25,000 to the Greenville-Reynolds Development Corp. to fund
roof replacement of the building vacated by Werner Ladder Co. in
2003. The project will allow the GRDC to lease the vacant property
and create jobs.
- $25,000 to the City of Hermitage to pay for completion of the
conceptual design for the LindenPointe Technical Incubator and
Training Facility, to be located in the LindenPointe Planned
Technical Park. The facility will assist in business attraction and
promote creation of quality jobs.
- $20,000 to the Jamestown Future Foundation to help pay for
restoring the roof of the Carriage House, part of the historic
Gibson House and Carriage House site at the center of Jamestown
Borough's economic revitalization and marketing efforts.
- $5,000 to the Jefferson Township Civic League to pay for
cementing the floor of the Jefferson Township Fair hall. The work
will make the site more accessible to patrons, especially those in
wheelchairs, with strollers or with walking aids.
- $25,000 to the Penn Northwest Development Corp. to identify
wetlands and streams at a potential business and industrial park off
I-80 in East Lackawannock and Findley townships, and at a planned
development site near I-80 and Route 60 in Shenango Township. The
project is part of the effort to develop 1,000 acres of business
park properties in Mercer County, creating 10,000 new jobs.
"I am extremely pleased to announce funding assistance for projects
that will create jobs and preserve history in Mercer County," said
Robbins. "We must continue to strive to promote community development
and job creation at the state and local levels."
The Community Revitalization Program is administered by the state
Department of Community and Economic Development.
