Robbins Announces Community
Revitalization Grants to Aid Key Projects
Harrisburg – Sen. Bob Robbins (R-50) today
announced the awarding of state Community
Revitalization grants to support three projects in
the Crawford County area.
Robbins announced the following grants:
- $30,000 to the Meadville Area Industrial
Commission to assist with the environmental
cleanup at the Bessemer Industrial site in
Meadville. "The site has discharged oil into
French Creek for decades, and previous
remediation efforts by Conrail proved
ineffective. The grant will help pay for the
placement of 15 recovery well sites near the
discharge area, as well as a network of piping,
a storage tank and a control room," said
Robbins.
- $10,000 to the Crawford/Venango Fire School
in Cambridge Springs to build a second floor on
its Advanced Burn building. "The second floor
addition will allow firefighters to be trained
in multiple-floor fire suppression, as well as
search and rescue. The school trained more than
300 fire and rescue personnel from nine counties
in 2003," the senator noted.
- $10,000 to the Oil Creek Railway Historical
Society for tourism promotion and training of
railroad volunteers. "The grant will also help
pay for the cleaning of rail cars and passenger
stations, and the refurbishment of the tourist
information center. The society celebrates the
history of the Oil Creek and Titusville
Railroad, and welcomed its 500,000 passenger in
2004," said Robbins.
"These are projects that promote economic
development, tourism and public safety," said
Robbins. "It's important that the state return tax
dollars to our communities to support local
projects such as these."
The Community Revitalization Program is
administered by the state Department of Community
and Economic Development.
