FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Robbins Announces Funds for Crawford County Stream and Watershed ProjectsHarrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the awarding of the two state grants to support stream bank restoration and Oil Creek Watershed projects. Robbins said the Crawford County Conservation District will receive $30,000 to continue stream bank restoration projects lead by high school students. The project will install at least 10,000 feet of streambank fencing, plant 12 acres of native trees and shrubs, and complete 10 student led restoration projects. A $60,000 grant is being awarded to the Pennsylvania Environmental Council to implement best management practices in the Oil Creek Watershed, the senator added. Such practices help prevent runoff from polluting streams within the watershed. "I am pleased to announce that these locally-run projects will be receiving state assistance. Responsible projects to protect our streams and water supplies, run at the local level, deserve to be supported," said Robbins. The grants are among more than $5.5 million being awarded statewide by the state Department of Environmental Protection through the Growing Greener program. CONTACT: Mike Hengst (717) 787-1322
