FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Robbins, Gruitza Announce City of Hermitage Recycling GrantHarrisburg – The City of Hermitage is receiving a state grant to help operate its recycling program, state Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) and Representative Mike Gruitza (D-7) announced today. The lawmakers said the amount of the $22,267 grant was based on the total tons and types of materials recycled in the city in 2003. "This grant is related to Hermitage's performance in recycling waste," said Robbins. "The county recycled 2,220 tons in 2003, which means that waste was diverted from landfills." The grant was awarded through the Recycling Performance Grant Program, administered by the state Department of Environmental Protection. The grant is in addition to other funds DEP allocates to municipalities in the effort to reach a statewide goal of recycling 35 percent of all municipal waste.
