FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Robbins to Host Senior Crime Prevention Seminar in HermitageHarrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) announced that he will host a free Senior Crime Prevention Seminar on Wednesday, September 14th at the Shenango Valley Senior Center, located at 220 North Buhl Farm Drive in Hermitage. The Seminar will take place from 9:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The Seminar will feature the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection, Mercer County District Attorney James P. Epstein, Mercer County Sheriff Bill Romine, as well as representatives from the Senior Center. "With 15 percent of its citizens over the age of 65, Pennsylvania has the second highest percentage of seniors in the nation," said Sen. Robbins. "Unfortunately, this age group is often the target of many elaborate scams, including the growing threat of identity theft. This Seminar aims to make our residents and families aware of the threat of fraud to the elder community, teach them how to avoid being victimized; and to make sure they know who they should call when they are concerned about their safety and well being. Educating seniors about crime and how to avoid it is the best way we can help seniors to help themselves." The Attorney General's Office has an interactive presentation that serves to warn older residents about a variety of scams and fraudulent activities. The program includes information and advice on several topics including home improvement fraud and identity theft, telemarketing and sweepstakes ploys, as well as living trust scams. The Seminar is free and open to the public. Seniors are encouraged to participate through advance registration by contacting Krystal Wascher in Sen. Robbins' Greenville Office at 724-588-1323 or toll-free 1-800-222-8793. CONTACT: Nate Silcox 717-787-1322
