Sen. Robbins, Rep. Stevenson
Announce $5 Million Grove City Sewage Plant
Improvement Loan
Project will accommodate creation
of up to 750 new jobs.
Harrisburg –State Sen. Bob Robbins (R-50) and
state Rep. Dick Stevenson (R-8) today announced the
approval of a $5 million state loan to help Grove
City Borough upgrade its regional sewage treatment
system and accommodate new businesses and jobs.
"This system upgrade and expansion has a
tremendous economic impact on southeastern Mercer
County," said Robbins. "There are several economic
development projects underway in the area that are
projected to create 550 to 750 new jobs. Without
this state assistance, those new jobs would be in
jeopardy."
The economic development projects include the
redevelopment of Cooper Industrial Commons, a
550,000-square-foot brownfield site in the borough,
and the expansion of the Prime Retail L.P. Power
Center, Robbins said. The sewage system serves Grove
City Borough and surrounding townships of Liberty,
Pine and Wolf Creek.
"The upgrade and expansion of the sewage system
is critical for the success of these economic
development projects and for the economic vitality
of southeastern Mercer County," said Stevenson.
"This is a large, expensive project, and it wouldn't
be possible without this state loan."
The loan was approved by the Commonwealth
Financing Authority, created by the legislature last
year to fund up to $1 billion in economic
development initiatives across Pennsylvania.
"We created the Commonwealth Financing Authority
to support projects just like this – projects that
will help bring good jobs to our area," said
Robbins. "I am pleased I was able to work with
Representative Stevenson and Grove City to secure
these funds, and I'll continue working with all of
the municipalities and economic development
organizations in Mercer County to help them finance
projects that will create good-paying jobs."
