FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Governor Signs Senator Robbins' Legislation Into LawHarrisburg – One bill sponsored by State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50), and another bill strongly supported by the Senator, have been signed into law by the Governor. Senate Bill 736 -- now Act 95 of 2005 -- will make the Pennsylvania Construction Code more flexible. This bill was introduced as a result of area businesses being told that they could not expand onto their facilities unless they brought their entire facility up to Code since they did not have their original occupancy permit. For these businesses, remodeling their current facilities is cost prohibitive. The new law provides such businesses an opportunity to obtain an occupancy permit if they meet several commonsense safety requirements, such as adequate lighting, ventilation, and exits. They would then be exempt from having to bring their building up to the Construction Code. "Government does not create jobs, but it can stifle job creation efforts," said Robbins. "This law will allow these businesses to expand their operations and, in turn, increase employment opportunities." The Governor also signed into law another bill -- House Bill 1690 -- supported by Sen. Robbins that allows the Game Commission to create a "Mentored Youth Hunting Program." The program will provide a hands-on experience for youngsters ready and willing to learn about hunting. The hunt would consist of one adult, one youth, and one hunting device. The youth hunter would be within arm's length of the licensed hunter at all times. Hunting would be limited to deer, turkey, and smaller game. Earlier this year, Sen. Robbins introduced Senate Bill 988, which would have established the program. He also inserted the same provisions into House Bill 1690 -- which is now Act 86 of 2005. Sen. Robbins stated, "I am looking forward to the establishment of this program, which will provide Pennsylvania with another opportunity to attract youth to hunting." CONTACT: Nate Silcox
