FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Robbins Announces Grant to Boost Literacy Efforts in Sharon SchoolsHarrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the approval of a $10,000 state grant to help raise literacy levels in the Sharon City School District. Robbins said the grant will be used to purchase books and other literacy materials for the three elementary schools. It will also allow the district to make a literacy instructor available to students and their families. "This grant will aid an effort that involves both students and their families, because good reading and writing habits start at home," said Robbins. "The books purchased with this grant will be leveled to accommodate students of all reading levels. The aim is to encourage students to challenge themselves – with the help of instructors – to reach the next level." "The funds provided through the Community Revitalization Grant and supported by Senator Bob Robbins will enable the Sharon City School District to enhance the reading collections in the classroom libraries of every third, fourth and fifth grade classroom throughout the District. The funding will enable each classroom to add a minimum of 100 leveled texts to their collection, thus ensuring that all children in the identified grades will have access to greater numbers of high quality, level appropriate literature," stated Michael Calla, Acting Superintendent of Sharon City School District. The Community Revitalization Program is administered by the state Department of Community and Economic Development. CONTACT: Michael A. Hengst
