Senate Committee Approves Robbins' Legislation Allowing Charities to Fundraise on Roadways

Harrisburg – Today, the Senate Transportation Committee unanimously reported a bill sponsored by Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) that would allow charities to fundraise along roads.

"It was recently brought to my attention by the Greenville Fire Department and several community groups that they are prohibited from soliciting funds along roads," said Sen. Robbins.  "Senate Bill 1330 would reverse this policy by providing local municipalities the authority to approve charitable organizations planning to fundraise along roadways."

"Volunteer organizations have held fundraisers along roadways for years," said Sen. Robbins.  "These fundraisers are successful because they are highly visible.  The truth is, without such visibility, it is difficult to attract attention for such worthy causes.  This bill would make this issue a local matter."

"In terms of the Greenville Fire Department, it is important to know that the money raised goes directly to worthy charitable organizations such as the Muscular Dystrophy Association," said Brian Albaugh, the MDA Chairman of the Greenville Fire Department.  "I'd like to thank the Senator for listening to our concerns and pushing this legislation."

Senate Bill 1330 now goes before the full Senate for consideration.
