FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Robbins Announces $850,000 Grant for Western New York & PA Railroad UpgradesHarrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the approval of an $850,000 grant to upgrade the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad line in Cambridge, Woodcock, West Mead and Meadville, Crawford County. Robbins said the grant would allow for the continued upgrade of the line and extension of yard track for safer handling of unit coal trains that move Monongahela coal to New York and New England via interchange with Norfolk Southern. The completed project will help create two jobs and maintain 1,008 jobs. "Access to modern, efficient rail facilities can give regions like ours an edge when competing for business and jobs. It's important that we maintain and improve our rail service whenever possible to create jobs and make Crawford County attractive for businesses looking to relocate," said Robbins. The grant was awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Rail Freight Transportation Assistance Program. Grants can be used for the construction, maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of rail lines, rail sidings and grade crossings. CONTACT: Mike Hengst
