Robbins Announces $95,000 in Aid for Lawrence County Projects

Harrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the approval of four state Community Revitalization grants to benefit a number of community projects in Lawrence County.

"These are local projects, administered by local governments and economic development organizations," said Robbins.  "These grants represent state tax dollars returning to the community to benefit local endeavors and ultimately saving tax dollars at the local level."

The projects that are receiving funding are the following:

  • Hickory Township, $10,000, to assist with an engineering study of a township bridge along Taylor Road.  The existing bridge does not allow maintenance or emergency vehicles to cross the bridge to service homes.
  • Lawrence County Economic Development Corporation, $40,000, to assist with an economic development project in Millennium Technology Park, Neshannock Township.
  • Neshannock Township, $30,000, to assist with the installation of a traffic signal pre-emption system at the intersection of Mitchell Road and Route 18.  The pre-emption system will permit safe travel by emergency vehicles that must pass through the intersection for access to and from Route 60 and Route 18 North; installation of storm sewers along Nesbitt Road in order to alleviate flooding that has caused safety concerns at the major intersection of Nesbitt and Wilmington Roads; and to assist the township to update the storm water ordinance to meet the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code.
  • Wilmington Township, $15,000 to assist with renovation of the American Legion Building that the township purchased to be used as a community building and an election day polling facility.

Robbins said the state Community Revitalization grants are designed to support projects that promote community improvement, public safety and job creation.

The Community Revitalization program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development.
