Robbins Announces $261,000 in Aid for
Mercer County Projects
Harrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) today
announced the approval of several state Community
Revitalization grants to benefit a number of community
projects in Mercer County.
"These are local projects, administered by local
governments and economic development organizations," said
Robbins. "These grants represent state tax dollars
returning to the community to benefit local endeavors and
ultimately saving tax dollars at the local level."
The projects that are receiving funding are the
following:
- Buhl Farm Park located in the city of Sharon, $20,000,
to assist with improvements to the community pools liner.
- Community Health Partnership of Mercer County, $15,000,
to assist with the development of a strategic health plan
for Mercer County youth that will include every school in
the county and the cooperation of the Mercer County School
Health Advisory Council.
- Delaware Township, $20,000, to assist with the purchase
of a new municipal mower, which is used to perform roadside
mowing, brush cutting and ditch cleaning along local
roadways.
- Erie Extension Canal Museum, Greenville, $11,000, to
assist with the promotion of the history of the Erie
Extension Canal and its impact on Greenville and Western
Pennsylvania and the Canal Museum, the Waugh House Museum
and the Greenville Railroad Museum.
- Greenville Historical Society, $5,000, to assist the
historical Society with the purchase of a new copier system
in their efforts to preserve local history.
- Hermitage City, $25,000, to assist with the updating of
camera equipment and materials used at crime scenes for the
Mercer County Major Crimes Task Force.
- Lakeview Area Recreation Association, Stoneboro,
$10,000, to assist with improvements and renovations to the
Jack Jones Memorial Complex.
- Mercer County Amateur Radio Club, $15,000, to assist
with the updating of emergency radio equipment. The new
equipment will be used to enhance the response to disasters
and large scale emergencies occurring throughout Mercer
County and surrounding areas.
- Mercer County Historical Society, $5,000, to preserve
the documents of Dr. John Walter Goodsell located at the
historical society. Dr. Goodsell was the expedition doctor
on the successful Robert E. Peary trip to the North Pole in
1908-09.
- Mercer County Regional Council of Governments, $40,000,
to replace and upgrade the communications tower that
services a number of police departments in Mercer County.
- Shenango Campus, Penn State University, $25,000, to
assist in the purchase of equipment used in the Physical
Therapy Assistance Program.
- Sandy Lake Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, $10,000,
to assist in the purchase of fire fighting equipment. The
Sandy Lake Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company services a
number of local communities in the Sandy Lake area.
- Transfer Volunteer Fire Department, $20,000, to assist
with the remodeling of the west end fire station.
- Wheatland Borough, $25,000, to assist in the replacement
of a new furnace and heating system as well as other
renovations to the borough building.
- Wilmington Township, $15,000, to assist the township
with the development of a new community park and the
construction of a new park pavilion to be used by community
residents.
Robbins said the state Community Revitalization grants
are designed to support projects that promote community
improvement, public safety and job creation.
The Community Revitalization program is administered by
the Department of Community and Economic Development.
