FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Robbins' Route 6 "Gateways" Legislation Goes to GovernorHarrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) announced that legislation he has promoted has been passed by the General Assembly and sent to the Governor for his approval. Senate Bill 1206 designates Linesville (Crawford County) as the U.S. Route 6 "Gateway to the West" for westbound traffic and the "Gateway to Pennsylvania" for eastbound traffic. Similarly, the legislation designates Matamouras (Pike County) as the U.S. "Gateway to the East" for eastbound traffic and "Gateway to Pennsylvania" for westbound traffic. "Historic Route 6 is the longest highway in the United States stretching from Cape Cod in Massachusetts, through Pennsylvania, all the way to Long Beach Island in California," said Robbins. "In Pennsylvania, it runs through eleven northern counties from Pike to Crawford County. Matamoras and Linesville have long been considered the Pennsylvania gateways to the east and west, respectively -- -- this legislation simply makes these designations official." "I am very pleased to promote Linesville as it will soon be the home of the National U.S. Route 6 Museum, which will highlight the impact and importance of Route 6 on the development of our country and will provide opportunities to educate the public on its historic significance," said Robbins.
