FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pymatuning Named 2007 Park of the YearState's largest facility recognized by PA Parks and Forests FoundationFollowing up on a nomination by State Senator Bob Robbins, the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation recently named Pymatuning State Park as the 2007 Park of the Year. "With its award, the Parks and Forest Foundation recognized something that the people of our region already know, Pymatuning is the best park in Pennsylvania," Senator Robbins said. "There are many reasons why it serves more than 3 million visitors each year. The park provides many recreational activities and is a haven for swimmers, boaters, anglers and campers." In his nomination letter promoting Pymatuning for the award, Senator Robbins noted that the park hosts numerous special events each year including a new seven-week Junior Park Ranger program, fireworks displays in two locations, more than 250 environmental education programs, a pioneer and arts festival, and more than 50 fishing tournaments – including a kids fishing derby "Pymatuning State Park is one of the most diverse and unique environments in the state," Senator Robbins wrote in his nomination letter. "I believe the park is not only preserving its resources for all future generations and yet it provides a great many recreational opportunities, environmental education opportunities as well as economic support and opportunities to the neighboring communities while being good environmental stewards."
