Robbins Honors State Corrections Officers, Employees

SR 125 dedicates June to "backbone" of Corrections system

The Senate today adopted Senate Resolution 125, a measure introduced by Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) designating June 2007 as "Corrections Officers and Employees Month" in Pennsylvania.

Senator Robbins said his resolution is intended to honor the men and women who make up "the backbone" of the State Correctional System.

"Corrections officers and employees place themselves in danger every day as they patrol the toughest precincts in this Commonwealth.  They are also charged with the care, custody and control of our state prisoner population, making them the first element in the rehabilitation of incarcerated persons," Senator Robbins said.

Senator Robbins noted that two of the more-than-two-dozen state correctional facilities in Pennsylvania are located in his Senatorial District; the State Regional Correctional Facility at Mercer, and SCI Cambridge Springs in Crawford County.

"I can personally tell you that these officers and employees are dedicated and hard-working, and deserve "thanks" for what can seem like a thankless job," Senator Robbins said.
