Grant Awarded to New Wilmington Borough

$15,000 for land use planning project

New Wilmington Borough, Lawrence County, will receive a $15,000 Community Revitalization grant for its land use planning project, according to state Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) and state Representative Michele Brooks (R-17).

"We all like to see economic growth and the jobs that come with it, but as we are learning this growth can come at a real cost if it is not controlled and properly addressed by the municipality," Senator Robbins said. "I am pleased to help New Wilmington take the steps necessary to find an appropriate mix that combines growth without destroying the quality of life in the community."

"Unmanaged growth has already created problems in the region, such as traffic congestion, which can and should be addressed ahead of time, Representative Brooks said. "It is important that New Wilmington develop an effective long-range plan that encourages smart growth and protects the rural aspects of the area as well."

The state Community Revitalization grants are designed to support projects that promote community improvement, public safety and job creation.   The Community Revitalization program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development.
