Counties Receive Recycling, Hazardous Waste Grants

State money helps pay for local coordinators, collection programs

Butler, Crawford and Mercer counties all recently received state grants from the Department of Environmental Protection, according to Senator Bob Robbins (R-50).

The Mercer County Solid Waste Authority received a $38,886 received a recycling performance grant based on 4,337.2 tons of materials recycled during 2006.

Butler County received an $18,272 grant, Crawford County received a $30,378 grant, and Mercer County received a $4,974 grant to cover 50 percent of the counties' recycling coordinators' salaries and expenses.

Crawford County received a $6,798 grant to reimburse half the costs for developing and operating household hazardous waste collection events at several locations in Butler, Venango and Crawford counties last year.
